Last year, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and entered a photography competition for my very first time. So what is this thing? Shoot & Share is a photography community made up of 46,000+ photographers. Each year, they run a global contest which they describe as the world’s only free & fair photo contest. Photos can be entered within 25 categories and then voting is open to the public for several weeks. No one knows who took the photos, but everyone votes for the winners.
The participation in last year’s contest was pretty astounding and the talent I came across was simply inspiring. Here are some of the stats from last year:
Considering the number of entrees and the caliber of the photographers, I wasn’t necessarily expecting much. In the end, I was THRILLED to have 4 photos place in the top 10%, 12 photos place in the top 20%, and 5 photos place in the top 30%.
So why do I bring this up now? It’s time for the 2019 Shoot & Share contest and I went “All In” and submitted 50 photos – the max allowed (squee!) I will follow up with a look at all of the photos I entered but for now, I just want to encourage you all to check out the contest! You will be inspired and in awe of the photographs you see from around the world. They will make you laugh, they will make you cry, and they will make you think “Hot DAMN, that’s good!” But be prepared… voting is addictive. You’ve been warned.
